Brain Injury Awareness

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON BRAIN INJURIES IN SOCCER

There has been a lot of attention recently regarding brain injuries or concussions in soccer, particularly girls soccer, for some reason women's soccer has the highest incidence of concussions of any women's sport, right up there with mens ice hockey and rugby.  CYSA intends to provide as much information available.  Below are some recent notable news articles on the issue, on-line training for parents and coaches, resources from US Youth Soccer and available head gear.

CYSA is taking the issue seriously in terms of educating families about concussions and providing means for protective head gear.  While we do not endorse any statements that headgear eliminates the risk of getting a brain injury, we do endorse the use of head gear as a means to reduce the risk.

To help ensure the health and safety of young athletes, CDC developed the "Heads Up; Concussion in youth sports" initiative to offer information about concussions, a traumatic brain injury, to coaches, parents and athletes involved in youth sports.  The "Heads Up" initiative provides important information on preventing, recognizing and responding to a concussion.
